We have many minerals in our body and they all do a job to keep the body working correctly. Calcium is one of those minerals and you already know it is in your teeth and bones. To keep your bones and teeth healthy, you must be sure to get enough calcium each day because you body does not produce it.
Anyone who is younger than fifty needs about one-thousand milligrams of calcium each day. Those who are over the age of fifty need a bit more, twelve hundred a day. You can get your daily needs by eating foods high in calcium or taking supplements twice a day instead of all at one time. Vitamin D is needed by you body to be able to absorb the calcium so be sure to get that too.
When you don’t get enough calcium, your body will take from your bones and this is how osteoporosis develops. Cheese, milk and yogurt are good sources of calcium and so is tofu, pink salmon and you will find that some orange juice, breads and dry breakfast cereals have had calcium added for your benefit. Anyone with liver or kidney disease or inflammatory bowel disease has a higher risk for low levels of calcium in their body.
