Looking out for number one

You’ve been passed up for another promotion and you just don’t understand it! You come in early, stay late – do anything and everything to help make the company run smoothly but nothing seems to matter.
First, review your work circumstances and decide if this job is worth your time and energy. With the economic climate being what it is it isn’t recommended for one to leave a job without another in place, but it’s also true that you are not meant to suffer for your pay. If you’re becoming haggard and ill it’s a good time to review your situation.
Also, there’s a delicate balance between work and play – and most effective company leaders know it. Does it ever seem like your co-worker has a much more cavalier attitude but still keeps getting ahead? It may be because he’s showing his ability to both delegate and prioritize. One major priority should be your personal life. That doesn’t mean taking personal calls on the company’s time but it does mean taking some time for yourself occasionally, so that you can come back into the fray with energy and enthusiasm.
Do you remember the last time you took a vacation? If the answer is no, it’s time to really look at that. If you’re worried about leaving work for too long and falling behind then consider a shorter getaway closer to home. Holidays in the UK can be found for very good deals; it just takes a little bit of research and the commitment to look after number one.
