sweetenersArtificial sweeteners may provide the answer to drinks and foods that are lower in calories, but many consumers are unaware of the risks that they are posing to your health. Aspartame is one of the most popular sweeteners that are found in a variety of products from diet candies to diet soda. Aspartame has been linked with headaches and developmental disabilities in children and is dangerous to those that consumer high levels of the chemical.

Most of what you need to know about the dangers of artificial sweeteners can be found in the name. Anything that is labeled as artificial is more than likely created with the use of chemicals in a laboratory and cannot be easily digested within the body. When things are not easily digested within the body, how can we expect to gain the nutrients and other components that we require from these items?

Artificial sweeteners contain chemicals including known carcinogens and have been under careful scrutiny by many national health organizations. If you are trying to avoid the potentially harmful side effects that can come from artificial sweeteners, it is best to avoid the product altogether.

Unfortunately, there is a high amount of foods that contain a high amount of artificial sweeteners if they are in low in calories. Unfortunately, these low calorie foods are often the reason that these foods are diet friendly. When the choice comes down to the calories that could be consumed and offset with exercise or putting your body at risk with the use of artificial sweeteners; it is important to realize that you could hit the gym and work the weight off!
